alan, Sadness and anger do arise when I think of the ruin religion has made of Afhganistan. I also recall reading of ouur religious wars in europe, crusades, inquisition, etc, and that saddens me. It is such a waste this fruitless search for control over peoples lives.

Still, there is some good that comes from it, it acted as a repository of data in the middle ages, albeit a censorious one, critical stuff had a way of being erased and that parchment reused.

Right now religion could vanish and there would be no change in most peoples lives. We would be able to use the church land for whatever we wanted. Lots of priests would need retraining in some way.
