the 2nd sentence is confusing, if not misleading - for that i apologize (and mentioned earlier). redundant was meant to match abusive to parents that lock their kids in the closet for 5 years - b/c i can't imagine a set of parents that would lock their kids in a closet for 5 years NOT BEING ABUSIVE. by my definition, they are abusive and, therefore, listing them as abusive was redundant given information already provided in the paragraph. that was the intent, albeit, it was poorly stated.

for the record, lest anybody remain confused, i am not saying all poor parents are abusive. many excellent parents are quite poor.
