I don't know if a cache larger than maybe 512k will buy you anything at current clock rates. The Xeons need it because they have to share a low-bandwith memory channel. With EV6 and DDR, I don't think AMD needs more. An with the likelihood that a larger L2 cache will have an impact on the max. clock rate...

Perhaps what really killed Mustang was the Mamba chipset. With 8MB of L3 cache in the chipset and Point-to-Point bus dual Palomino processors would make it difficult for dual Mustang processors to compete.
