Yes it does. And on a Xeon system where there are 4 processors sharing the same PC100 or PC133 64 bit wide memory bus, it keeps the performance up. But on a (so far) hypothetical 4 way AMD system, a 1 or 2 meg cache Athlon would perform about the same as a 512k Athlon, and cost a great deal more. In addition, it probably would not clock as high. The high price of those large cache Xeons make a difference as far as market share goes, else the small cache Xeons wouldn't out sell them at a high rate.

I was just making the point that it would be nice to see AMD get some of that high ASP territory.
I wasn't aware that they had to make a choice between mobile and Mustang w/512k like Kap suggested. I don't know why they couldn't have both...unless they knew 4 and 8 way was a big problem and decided even though they made a Mustang there wouldn't be a chipset for it?

Don't some/most of the server chipsets for the 4+ systems have dual or quad (or better) SDRAM memory paths?

Let's see....a non-existent but-Hypothetical 4-way AthWiper system - composed of non-existent-but-hypothetical-AthWipers-with-non-existent-1-or-2-MegaBytes of cache would perform ABOUT THE SAME as a non-existent-hypothetical-4-way-AthWiper-system with a non-exitenet-but-hypothetical-512K- of-L2-cache.

I suppose you have made extensive - but non-existent-simulations to verify these "hypothetical" results !

AMDroid logic - you just can't beat it !
