The direct x diagnostic tools can test certain features of the video card (such as direct draw and 3d).

Thanks for the URL flowchart.

You are correct. I'm using Win98 SE. For whatever reason, the display has stabilized in the last 24 hours. I've eliminated a couple of applications that has been running in the background on startup, but other than that, no configuration changes in this period. So, at this point I reckon that the attitude ought to be if it ain't broke, don't fix it. For whatever reason, the monitor image is once again stable. Go figure.....
