Dan,

It would be nice if the companies would break out property (reasonably depreciated over 30 years, if ever), plant, and equipment being carried on their books. Internally, these components are depreciated at different rates.

Property is never depreciated, unless it is used for natural resources, then instead of depreciation expense it is called Depletion. But, nevertheless, property in never depreciated.

When you talk about rates of change, by arguing that Intel's Depreciation expense is increasing, one can come up with a few answers such as upgrading the fabs, increasing the # of fabs.

We do know that Intel is finding a large capex rate increase necessary while AMD is not

Why is that a negative for Intel? That is a big positive, investing in Technology in order to make chips more efficiently, whilst AMD cannot due to financial constraints.

Blow Hard Dan - re: "We do know that Intel is finding a large capex rate increase necessary while AMD is not. "

You have been DWELLING on this ad nauseum for several months.

We can literally see the fear in your eyes as Intel's bulks up its manufacturing plant capacity - to position itself for the economic recovery that will occur sometime within the next two years.

Of course, AMD's plummeting ASPs - even on their newly released 1.4 GHz AthWipers - is probably adding to your fear and loathing.
