ok, duff....let's take 'em one at a time... not b/c you can't read on your own, but since you appear to want to make a point of it....:
1. <<Is Optical Access both an equipment provider and a service provider?>>
i just quickly reviewed their company description and products... didn't find any mention of being a service provider.... i did see them refer to providing solutions to the service providers in the means of equipment. their customers, of those we know of to date, are service providers. of course, that doesn't preclude them from doing such in the future, but i'd think that would be slitting their own throats to compete where they're selling. i'm not sure if you're asking that they specifically state what they DO NOT do? <g>

2. <<Do they design and build the FSO networks?>>
" Optical Access is a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of next-generation optical wireless solutions that facilitate a fundamental shift in access network design." ok, this is the FIRST line of the description of OPXS.

heck, you didn't even have to go THAT FAR! you could have seen it from the list of startups:
"OPTICAL CROSSING

Optical Crossing Inc. was established in April 2000 through funding
from MRV Communications, Inc. to design, build and manufacture
state-of-the-art fiber-optic communication systems and components for
the telecom industry."

"Our solutions enable service providers and carriers to rapidly deploy, high-speed broadband access networks."
ok, this is the SECOND sentence in the overview.... i think it's relatively clear that they sell equipment to service providers to deploy their own systems. i'm fairly certain (and you can verify this, as my wife wants me home for dinner) they haven't actually built the networks themselves... however, if it's as easy as it sounds to deploy, maybe they will enter that arena. i don't see that as a viable concern as to whether or not i invest in MRVC or OPXS.

3. <<Do they provide the internet connection as a service?>> unless you see it somewhere i don't, the answer would be no. it certainly appears in everything i've read that they are not providing services, but solutions and products to those who are. again, unless they state they ARE doing such, why should it be an issue? if they decide in the future to take that route, then it becomes an issue.... again, IF they change course, i would be concerned, as they would be selling to competitors, which is difficult.

4. <<Are they also an ISP?>>
same answer. no. not unless you can show me otherwise.

5. <<Do they even sell directly to end use customers or do they sell only to FSO network integrators such as Davnet and Tellaire?>>
same answer. no. not unless you can show me otherwise.

now, let's also not forget that MRVC does own part of Tellaire.... gosh, gotta get out of here....
