There was a story here last week that would break the heart of any union member. Nurses at a hospital here voted on a contract. The union counted the votes, yes won, and they contacted the hospital with the news. Contract is now binding.

Then they recounted the ballots - 5 times. Each time, nos won. Tough. Contract's valid. Nurses - pissed.

Oh yea, and there were 5 more votes than the number of people who voted.

Leaders of the Minnesota Nurses Association have been scrambling to contain the damage since discovering that a miscount led them to mistakenly ratify the contract offer at Abbott and the Phillips Eye Institute in Minneapolis.

A recount Sunday showed that the contract was actually rejected by one vote. But because the hospitals had been notified of its acceptance, lawyers for both sides said, the contract was legally binding.

Rumors is that Teamster are now sniffing around talking to angry nurses.
