Dave,
Ref < Mac OS X, Airport networking, and DVD writing at reasonable speed and cost are three prime very current examples. These are all killer innovations >

Airport networking and DVD writing will not provide a sustainable advantage, i.e the Wintel platform will be able to come up with an equivalent capability in a short time. Apple has the advantage of being able to react quickly since it is a closed system, and does not require industry consensus. As you point out USB was developed by Intel, but showed up on Apple before it showed up cleanly on the Wintel platform.[ Windows 98 cleaned up the USB problems.] So I think that the advantage for Airport networking and DVD will be short lived.

By contrast the advantage with GUI software was enormous. The 640k constraint on Windows 1 & 2, made it impossible for GUI software to be developed on the Wintel platform. Until the 640k constrained was lifted, Apple had several markets to themselves for years.

I do not know anything about the new Mac Os X. What kind of new capabilities does it provide to the user ? What kind of new software applications are made possible ?
