And here all this time I thought NetApp was a gonner...

This story was consistent with what several folks on this thread were saying when the BlueArc story broke. A good PR firm, but what else?!

Thanks for the article!!

Nice article. I wish we could have DS chime in on this one. Heed kas1's rule of revolutionary new technologies: 99% of them will be co-opted and put to better use by existing market players. The only exception is when the innovation fundamentally challenges the incumbent's value proposition, which is why I think NetApp is a threat to EMC, while BlueArc is not a threat to NetApp.

Has anyone at BlueArc seriously sat down and thought about "what if NetApp starts putting ONTAP on PLD's?" ?

FWIW, I think it's incorrect to compare BlueArc to dotcoms. At least BlueArc has a technology; dotcoms have/had no new technology. Calling Amazon or Webvan "tech companies" (or worse, "computer companies"!) has long been a pet peeve of mine, so I felt the need to vent here. :)
