Not that I enjoy disagreeing with you in public, Bob, but the crack down on gold coins and coin dealers was NOT due to the 1984 war on drugs.

It was due to a stricter interpretation of the definition of a commodity and as I stated before, Oregon, Washington and Utah were the IRS test cases for this new definition.

We couldn't go to a coin dealer out here during those mid 90's days without reading some latest ruling orprivate letter posted prominently on the coin dealer/retailers glass case so that we all could be kept in line.

While I have no doubt that what you are saying about an EARLIER action was and is true, the involvement of gold coins and coin dealers per se' did NOT come until the early to mid 90's. And it is $10K in 24 hours, not in 12 months for coin dealer reportings. The "unconformist bookkeeping type of dealers out here in Portland, dropped like flies." The paranoia still exists as many of them faced and did jail time.
