(isn't this stuff crazy sometimes? the fact that it all makes sense to me is getting frightening!) so noads is gone. it was still showing me the scottrade popup for several seconds, and that doesn't sound like it's working right. the author, Firas El-Hasan, said it doesn't replicate for him. i next downloaded and installed naviscope. wow. blinking lights city. immediately naviscope asked to be granted server rights on zonealarm. that's something i have come to accept as a no-no. the navi faq's forewarned me of this. i granted server status for awhile. norton personal firewall, which i have cranked to the max security setting, then began asking for new rule creations and permissions on every single website i visited. i do not wish to soften up the firewall settings, and navi was beginning to get on my nerves. there looks to be a whole lot more there than i ever expected or bargained for. it wasn't hampering my system in any way, as tc and quahog noted was their experience, but it was all just too over-the-top for me, given that i just wanted to block some darn pop ups. so naviscope has been relegated to the uninstall graveyard. i admit, it looked cool (atomic clock stuff, etc.), but ultimately, for me, too cool. i'll swing back to plan A, which was to try the norton internet security 2001 family edition ad blocking feature. i'll post back on how that goes for everyone who, i'm sure, is waiting with bated breath for my findings. <g3> until then, let the ads pop. :) mark
