Or m to busy "eshrob chai" (drinking tea) while they allow their young kids go to their death!

This is what's the most disgusting to most of us... They try and create the impression of stone-throwing youths as a case of "boys being boys"... But you note that there are not girls out there throwing stones, right?

So they can control the young girls, but that they can't control the young boys?? Let's get real here.... <sigh>

I can almost assure you that Israeli parents would be locking their children in their rooms were they seeing them out throwing stones at armed Palestinian policemen.

In fact, were I to go out in the middle of downtown DC, and started throwing rocks off a building at policemen, they'd probably be obliged to perforate me as well...

As for the UN/EU observers, you're right in that Arafat wants to hide behind them in order to declare his Palestinian state, without having to deal with the Israelis one on one to secure a lasting peace. Once he had his state, he could oust the UN whenever he felt comfortable, and bring in military forces from his Arab supporters.

And obviously the Israelis consider this an intolerable situation because it doesn't insure a demilitarized Palestinian entity, and they would perceive as a coerced, as opposed to one mutually agreed to by the conflicting parties.

And I also agree that many elements on both sides would just like the status quo to endure another 30 years, or even indefinitely, if possible since conflict is their goal, not mutually beneficial economic existence.
