Surely the historic cdma v GSM subs stats are not really reflective of what Q is all about

They aren't reflective of what the company is all about, but they do reflect a major driver of Qualcomm's revenue; without subscribers, there is no use of voice or data products from Qualcomm.

When I first began following Qualcomm, it had a very mixed business model that included the infrastructure and handset divisions. In my mind, the best way at the time to focus on adoption of CDMA was to look at worldwide subscriber growth. Once Spinco is spun off, we'll be able to focus on Qualcomm's revenue.
