You have to take into consideration that there is low WWW access in Japan (as something like 90 odd percent is all in a form of English). This is the reason why iMode is so successful and now a similar model is being developed for NTT fixed access.

Anyway, why would anyone want to buy a basic WAP handset now with GPRS/WAP handsets available from most in the next 9 months.
