Would no oil exploration and production boost her weight? The problems that exist in Sudan would exist with or without oil. The contact with western countries will open up supply channels that will bring in food and medicine.

It's the classic US problem -- do we get involved economically on the principle that our involvement will help solve problems, or do we remain disengaged economically because of the wrongs that are being perpetuated there.

Industrial white (or semi-white) North vs. rural black south. Civil war. Sound familiar?
