There are still countries that practice coercion of conscience, yes, and one is not perfectly free from social influence, even in the States. But there is a substantial degree of freedom, even within many mainstream denominations. I remember when a friend went to seminary at Drew University, nominally affiliated with the Methodist Church. Hardly anyone really believed in the creeds, and one professor was defensive about admitting that he did. Thus, it is possible to have outward conformity and inward rebellion, even in small Southern towns. As for the smorgasbord, that is part of the point of New Age beliefs, isn't it?: one takes a Native American ceremony over here, sits zazen over there, reads the Tibetan Book of the Dead (introduction by Carl Jung), and still goes to communion on Sunday......

Dear billy you again a show an intolerance to freedom.

>>>>>There is strong coercion in small towns, esp in the south and in muslim countries and communities. Coercion subsides in diverse cities but exists in racial groups within the city for assorted religions.

I wonder if you have ever married and have any friends who are married, well married for more than two hours. I say this as you appear to be clueless to the fact that having a common religion and cultural background and in particular a cultural religious background go a long way to creating a successful marriage that raises warm loving children.

Now if you think that what a ultra rich kid did who may have been a clinical wacko or just the product of wealth wacko make some statement that prove duhhhhh. I'd suggest once again you have you head up you butt. same-o same-o

But then I've been married for almost 30 years and I seen the lives of the few dozen of the aunts and uncles of my family and my wife's family where one's word given at the altar has meaning that adds to centuries of commitment. Your words show someone who has know understanding of the hows and why's of life and the relationship between God, commitment and relationships.
