Sun with their Forte products.

To date, essentially none of the Java products acquired in the Forte acquisition are actually available. The iPlanet product line is a combination of technology contributed to the alliance from the parents and technology they have developed in house. The one very notable exception to this is iIS, formerly known as Fusion, which came from Forte, but which is not a Java product, although the interface is XML. This has apparently become a strong flagship product for them. FJEE, which is the re-incarnation of the Forte SynerJ product, will be out shortly. It is still in Sun proper, but will probably get moved to iPlanet when released.

Sun has done little to really integrate their patchwork tools solution from their acquisitions into iPlanet.

I have difficulty understanding this statement. The iPlanet tools are highly integrated and make a very attractive matrix. The one missing piece has been the no holds barred J2EE development tool, but FJEE will provide that. Moreover, the Forte TOOL product now also has extensive features for Java integration.
