JAKKS Pacific Signs Master Activity Toys and Stationery Licensing Agreement With Nickelodeon
biz.yahoo.com
MALIBU, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 25, 2001--JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (Nasdaq NM:JAKK) today announced that it has signed a long-term comprehensive Master activity toys and stationery licensing agreement for its Flying Colors division with Nickelodeon under which JAKKS will develop a broad range of items based on a variety of Nickelodeon properties.

There are a dozen Nickelodeon properties covered by the comprehensive agreement, including Rugrats®, Blue's Clues®, SpongeBob SquarePants®, The Wild Thornberrys®, Rocket Power®, Dora the Explorer® and the Nickelodeon brand.

The new licensing agreement now includes virtually all properties from Nickelodeon's programming and expands upon existing agreements between the two companies by increasing the number of activity, back-to-school and stationery categories available for use by JAKKS. The relationship is designed to maximize the merchandising capabilities and increase exposure for the Nickelodeon brands at retail, while securing a consistent co-branded presence for both JAKKS and Nickelodeon in the activity and stationery categories.

JAKKS Pacific's Flying Colors division partners with Nickelodeon in the hopes of maximizing Nickelodeon's roster of hit properties and its unique ability to provide multi-platform marketing across all levels of business including online, recreation, magazines, movies and television.

According to Michael Bianco, executive vice president of JAKKS Pacific, products anticipated to be developed under the agreement include activity kits, play compounds, writing instruments, mechanical design toys, back-to-school stationery items and lunch boxes.

``We have had tremendous success in working with Nickelodeon during the last 5 years,'' said Bianco, referring to the popularity of Goooze®, Blues Clues, Rugrats and the Nick-tivities line, based on the Nickelodeon brand, ``and we look forward to expanding the relationship with this latest agreement. These are exceptional properties, and we expect them to significantly strengthen JAKKS' position as a leader in the activity and stationery categories.''

``In turning Goooze into the number-two seller among all U.S. toys in the second half of 2000, Flying Colors has clearly demonstrated its expertise in taking an existing license and developing it to its full potential. The product lines have combined the unique brand equities and personality of Nickelodeon properties to effectively extend the Nickelodeon on-air experience to the world of activity toys,'' said Samantha Freeman, Vice-President of Consumer Products, Nickelodeon. ``We are delighted to expand our relationship with JAKKS Pacific.''
