kj, possibly why the guy in LA did not oblige.
I am not sure how this was brought up as a demand or as a simple request. I am sure those who requested would have their own lawyers and thus would couch their request in such a way as to deflect any legal problems. I will ask him later today.

The Toronto one is gone now, I just spoke to my friend, he complied as a gesture to the employees on the basis of good will when he was approached by a few employees for the use of a room for prayers. Subsequently those employees then approached and tried to coerce other muslims to pray several times a day with the end result that it became a nuisance he looked for an excuse to cease providing the room and he did so when they expanded production and used that space up.
I guarantee you I am not a democrat or liberal or a religious person of any kind. I am more or less a conservative politically and a non theist where religion is concerned. I do not use the term atheist as that has come to be a religion of non-religion in many minds. I simply fail to believe in or acknowledge any gods exist.

Bill

JLA, as you know in the US it is required for employers to make reasonable accommodations for employees to practice their religion as long as it doesn't interfere with the workplace. Devout Muslims pray towards Mecca 6 times a day, kneeling on a prayer rug. And a number of firms make rooms available for them - and for Christians, too.

It's not any different than letting Christians take Sunday off, let Jews take Friday off and wear Yarmulkes, etc.

I handled a case for a Mormon who worked for the Post Office and wanted to take Sunday off. The Postal Service was very intransigent, but once I filed suit and the Justice Department got involved, we were able to work it out.
