Mark: I take your point, but there has been a recession in Japan for ten years now. I think the deeper issue is profits and productivity in the corporate world. The orgy of tech spending is over -- now the "real" new economy will emerge, the new economy based on improved productivity where costs must be cut faster than prices fall -- that is the fact of life for most companies.
