FASTNET Announces Activation of Wireless Service In Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
BETHLEHEM, Pa., June 11 /PRNewswire/ --

FASTNET® Corporation (Nasdaq: FSST - news), a leading provider of Business Communications Solutions including reliable dedicated Internet access, managed web hosting and colocation services today announces the availability of high- speed wireless Internet services in Wilkes-Barre, a growing community in Northeastern Pennsylvania; making it one of the few cities in the East Coast where this service is available.

Fixed broadband wireless service offers reliable transmission speeds of 512 Kb to 20 Mb per second over a reliable, secure wireless link. FASTNET's wireless network utilizes state-of-the-art unlicensed U-NII frequency band technology. Fixed wireless ``last mile'' solutions provide significant advantages over traditional ``wire''-based solutions including:

-- Speed of deployment - provisioned as quickly as 24 hours versus 30 to
60 days for wire-based solutions

-- Cost - Eliminates cost of local loop, equates to hundreds of dollars
per month in savings to customer

-- Flexibility - FASTNET's wireless solution can be "real-time" scaled to
accommodate changing bandwidth needs without costly equipment changes
and time delay

FASTNET's U-NII-based system is a significant technological step forward over existing ISM solutions, which suffer from poor reliability and limited bandwidth availability. In addition, the FASTNET technology and network is ATM based which enables FASTNET to deliver services that other wireless providers cannot.

``This is a great example of the combined FASTNET and Cybertech expertise. FASTNET's years of delivering business class solutions ensures our customers will enjoy the security, reliability and world class customer care they deserve,'' notes Bill Palma, VP of Wireless Development. ``The integration of the Cybertech technical retained by FASTNET in its acquisition of Cybertech Wireless, Inc. earlier in this year brings unsurpassed knowledge and experience with next generation wireless solutions that will allow those customers to reap the benefits of wireless solutions without the concerns associated with an unproven service provider.''

In addition to high-speed ``last mile'' Internet access, FASTNET also offers point-to-point wireless, which can be used to connect multiple offices across campus or across town, with speeds ranging from T1 to OC-3.

``We're pleased to add Wireless Internet to our portfolio of services available to customers in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area. Customers now have a flexible and cost effective alternative to telco-based Internet connectivity,'' said Stephen Hurly, CEO of FASTNET. ``Wireless access combined with FASTNET's proven expertise with respect to reliability, security and customer service make FASTNET the right choice for businesses in Northeastern Pennsylvania.''`

FASTNET's Wireless Internet Service is available in Wilkes-Barre, Kingston, Edwardsville and other areas surrounding Wilkes-Barre, with new areas available soon.
