It says quite plainly in the Declaration of Independence that we were endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, among then Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The Laws of Nature and Nature's God were also mentioned. In the end they state their trust in divine Providence. As Confucius said, "when the language is incorrect, the people will have nowhere to put hand and foot." If you are alone on an island, you could say the only right you really have is to be alone.
