HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2001--Sierra Wireless CDMA 2001, Booth #S4

Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR) (TSE:SW.), a leading manufacturer of wireless data modems, today announced the
development of the Sierra Wireless CDMA 1xRTT Embedded Module. Available in the fall 2001, the embedded module
provides complete wireless functionality for mobile and fixed platforms.
Sierra Wireless' industry-leading 1xRTT technology is being demonstrated for the first time in Asia at the CDMA 2001
show, in the Lucent booth (Booth #S4). With years of experience providing circuit-switched AMPs, CDPD and CDMA
IS95A embedded modules, Sierra Wireless is integrating 1xRTT technology into a new embedded module that will turn a
wide variety of hardware devices into high-speed communications tools including mobile devices such as handheld and
laptop computers, industrial meters, monitoring equipment, and point-of-sale terminals.
Using CDMA technology from Qualcomm, the Sierra Wireless 1xRTT Embedded Module will be the company's
fourth-generation embedded product, and will provide seamless wireless Internet connectivity to CDMA networks at speeds
of up to 153.6 kbps. A dual-band wireless modem, it will operate in both the 800MHz and 1900MHz bands, allowing
worldwide wireless access via CDMA networks. It will support 1xRTT, IS95A and IS95B protocols for maximum
connective flexibility, and is equipped to handle high-quality, reliable voice and data communications.
"Sierra Wireless has been a longtime leader in the field of wireless wide-area network embedded modules and in the
integration of wireless technology into mobile and fixed computing devices," said Mark McMillan, vice president, marketing
for Sierra Wireless. "Through the development of four generations of embedded modules and close partnerships with
hardware vendors and integrators such as Panasonic and Itronix, Sierra Wireless has gained a deep understanding of the
embedded module business. This knowledge and our continued commitment to providing wireless solutions for mobile
devices, has culminated in the development of the Sierra Wireless CDMA 1xRTT Embedded Module."
"Business is starving for effective, high speed, simple connectivity for PDA's and laptops. Modems based on 1xRTT
technology are a big step in the direction to feed that insatiable appetite," said Bob Egan, vice president and research
director at Gartner Group. "Critical to the growth of this market is embedding these modules inside PDA's and laptops,
enabling ease of use and reducing the cost of ownership."
