I cite as examples the recent histories of Ireland, Bosnia, Rwanda, the Middle East, the Philippines, Europe in the WWII era, etc. Racism, I think, is another main contributor. re: " Seeing religion and its effect on the world wearing that kind of black and white lense, is simply bigotry to me. Yes, there are probably thousands of religious organizations that do good work and I have a great deal of respect for and financially support such organizations. But I don't think their numbers constitute a large segment of the 95% of people who say they believe in a god. It cannot be denied that many religious groups in this country hate other religious, ethnic, or racial groups in this country.
