Yes, John Brown was executed as a terrorist because of his war against slavery. During his "campaigns" he killed many innocent men, women and children. He deeply believed in the righteousness of his cause and considered himself a martyr to a corrupt and immoral political system.

Timothy McVeigh felt the same way, although his terrorist war was a campaign against a federal government that he strongly believed was immoral and corrupt and which had abandoned the original values and principals of the Constitution.
