NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares are looking to hug the flat line once the official opening bell sounds on Tuesday.

Investors are maintaining a cautious stance as the pre-announcement season unfolds after taking the major stock averages sharply lower for two consecutive sessions.

September S&P 500 futures shaved 1.20 points, or 0.1 percent, and were trading right at fair value, according to HL Camp & Co. And Nasdaq futures gave up 1.00 point.

Treasury issues traded a tad lower out of the gate, with the 10-year note down 1/8 to yield ($TNX) 5.31 percent while the 30-year government bond gave up 5/32 to yield ($TYX) 5.70 percent.

Tuesday's session will again be devoid of economic data. The week's key releases -- the retail sales report for May and the producer and consumer price indexes -- will be unleashed starting on Wednesday. View Economic Preview and economic calendar and forecasts.

In the currency space, dollar/yen shed 0.1 percent to 121.88 while euro/dollar edged up 0.4 percent to 0.8472.
