John - Re: "(The original idea behind the purchase was that HP would benefit from the change from emulsion photography to digital photography -printers - scanners - cameras-, I'm still waiting) "

My guess is that Canon or Epson - or some other SouthEast Asian firm - will be the winner here.

Hi John, RE: "would benefit from the change from emulsion photography to digital photography -printers - scanners - cameras"

I tend to avoid investing in consumer hardware companies. No margins; too easy for an overseas company to copy inexpensively.

HP basically gives its printers away for free. The only profit from the printer business is through the cartridge refiller. And that revenue stream is only as good as their patents hold, which they seem to keep going to court over.

Admittedly, many people have done very well with their Dell investments, but I tend to avoid investing in any of the box makers. A lack of strong IP tends to scare me off.

But the shift into the higher-end Server market intrigues me enough to want to dabble in it (more margins, more IP). But then, which Server box maker? So many of them - what if the one I select doesn't do good? So, I tend to keep the money in INTC - the intersection point.

Regards,
Amy J
