I don't believe you can separate the two. The founders philosophical belief's, and desire to set up a just society because of those belief's, were an integral part of the reason they did what they did.

Would an atheist society have set up a similar creed and belief system? Will will never know, but I doubt it. Because they would have invested more power and authority in a central government, instead of the people.

When your belief's are not derived from God, they might as well come from the shifting sands of political influence and power.

"We hold these truth's to be self-evident" is not a relativistic phrase.
