>AMD is seeking partners to help it in its manufacturing plight, among them Motorola and IBM. 3rd party foundries, such as TSMC and UMC, are also being contacted.<

This is hardly anything new. AMD collaborated with DEC and Fujitsu for the 0.50-micron generation, HP for the 0.35-micron generation, and Motorola for the 0.18-micron generation. They successfully went it alone for 0.7-micron generation, then had to bring IBM into the picture after a botched attempt to go it alone with 0.25-micron. I for one am happy to see that AMD is calling in the cavalry for 0.13-micron and SOI.

>* MEANWHILE this Reuters report quotes an AMD official as saying that the firm's market share will reach 30 per cent by the end of this year.<

Best guess is that the AMD spokesman said 30% in Japan, and Reuters left out the Japan qualifier.
