Foundry Treasurer: 2Q Sales Pacing Better Than 1Q >FDRY

By Peter Loftus
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Foundry Networks Inc. (FDRY) has generated more sales
to date in the current quarter than it had at the same point last quarter,
Treasurer Michael Iburg said Tuesday.
But Iburg, speaking at the CIBC World Markets Communications Conference
here, stopped short of saying whether the network equipment maker's sales in
the second quarter ending June 30 would meet analysts' expectations.
Iburg said the analysts' consensus estimate for second-quarter sales was
about $82 million, roughly flat with the first quarter.
"We're a lot closer to $82 million today than we were back in March," Iburg
said. But with three weeks left to go in the quarter, he added, "I don't
know where we'll land."
Like other networking firms, Foundry has seen a slowdown in sales to
telecommunications service providers, who have reduced capital spending.
Iburg said telecom providers and other customers are still interested in
Foundry products, but it was tough to predict how much they'll buy in coming
months.
"There's more business in the pipeline, that's the good news," he said. "The
bad news is, I don't know if the business will come this quarter, the next
one, or the one after that."
