Windpower requires that the windmill receive regular maintenance. Another attractive alternative is tidal power.

I was still under the impression that these types of power generators would only produce a token amount of power.
I've seen several wind farm in California and there is one planned for Washington State, which is to be the largest in the US, but it will only provide power for 70,000 homes.

As far a oil prices, I think that today's prices are not very high. I believe that crude oil is well under 30 dollars a barrel. Gasoline in the US still costs less than $2.00 a gallon, which is much cheaper than the European prices.

The problem that the US West Coast has is a lack of natural gas. The clear air regulations have shut down all coal electric generators west of Montana. And their is not enough natural gas pipelines heading into the West Coast.

This is a drought year so hydro electric power will not be producing the normal 10-15% of electricity, so natural gas turbines will have to make up the slack.
