One plus is the displays that are available now. Another is the portability, even if you just go to different rooms in your house, it is nice to be able to move around. Wireless technology is now available which allows one to access the web from any location in one's house. If you use a phone line hookup though it is easy to plug-in in most rooms. Another advantage is fan noise. Laptops tend to be almost silent vs. most desktops have a significant fan noise. Finally, they take up very little space on one's desktop, and are better looking as well I think. Some disadvantages of laptops though are they are more expensive, they are less reliable (I think this is still true, but does not concern me), they are more fragile, and sometimes the keyboards are significantly worse than for desk units (mine is about equal). I think that depends partly on how they position the keys. Mine is a one year old Dell Inspiron 5000 with the SVGA+ 15" screen. The display is awesome in my opinion. However, Dell now has an "ultra" 15" VGA screen that is even higher resolution. My preference is for the touch-pad pointing device instead of the eraser-type thing in the keyboard, partly because I have found that one tends to hit this "eraser" while typing. For this reason my next laptop will probably not be a Dell. Dell has come up with this idea of building in both types of input devices to their laptops. I am not sure, but I think this applies now to all the models they sell. I use a mouse almost all the time, but when traveling, I find the touch-pad is adequate. John
