I am a long-time fan of Carlin, and a number of other entertainers who require me to ignore their pitiful attempts to be serious about matters that totally overwhelm them. You just don't run a show with a parade of people who spend their lives as Senators, Cabinet members, and authors of books on the heavyweight matters of our time, and then bring in a pissant ginmill jester and ask him/her the same heavyweight questions. It's just too Larry King, not to mention childishly cruel. But then what would Mathews know about such journalistic subtlety? Come on back to Vegas, George, and stop trying to play with the adults...
