nealm, We are the system and capture all inputs and outputs and so we are adiabatic.
Heat islaands are local effects, true. deep waters are increasing. These deep waters are usually very steady with a small repeatable annual cycle. They have been increasing very slowlly, but they represent about 80% of the water in the ocean, that below the thermocline, and so it is very significant. The recent increases in seal lever are due to expansion of the deeps due to this. surface exp is negligible.

Upper atmosphere has very little thermal capacity due to the low density. that is also why it can swing a lot from an input.
