Even though nobody will really need a 64-bit desktop for sometime to come.<

My gut feeling is that Itanium will be to the industry what 68020 was back in the mid-80s, with Hammer becoming the 386 analog.

Perhasps the ITanium will be the standard 64 bit desktop CPU that is also a 32 bit processor.
