Williams Says Panel May Order
Refunds of Some Electricity Sales

By Chip Cummins

Williams Cos., a big energy provider to California, said it
believes it could be required by federal regulators to refund
about $11 million for electricity it sold in the state earlier this
year.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is reviewing about
$124.5 million in electricity sales made in California in January
through April by several power suppliers, including $30 million
in sales by Williams. The total value of these suppliers' power
sales actually was much higher, but FERC is reviewing just
those sales it believes may have been excessively priced.
