I found a very good term for "to be" hope somewhere on the net: inner smile.

spiritual or 'real' happiness is independent of that or course

real, spiritual or just degrees or maybe lasting versus transitory ?

I'm truly happy seeing my children grow.... when my wife is happy.... when my children smile.... when my children demonstrate responsibility..... when they come to me for comfort.... knowing that I am providing for their future as best I can.... playing with my children.... cuddling my children.... dancing with my wife.... when any of them need me.... when any of them no longer need me because of something I've taught them..... I don't know, is that spiritual ?

On the other hand walking across the Capilano suspension bridge north of Vancouver with so much space beneath me and then leaning against an ancient, giant tree towering above me.... standing on the Great Wall of China away from the tourist hordes and visualising all the history I've read....laying on my back while camping and looking up at the black night sky filled with stars like dust and wondering.....racing down a too expert ski run, too fast, skiing too far beyond my ability, hearing nothing but my own body and the snow beneath my skis all the way......seeing the first flowers on a cactus I've grown from seed...Is that spiritual ?

It's all real and makes me happy and trouble is money helps it happen :o)

regards
Kastel
