"I fail to see how you can blame anything on the US sanctions." I can hold the US responsible because that is what was intended by the sanctions.

Is it possible you don't want to see this? Please take a moment to consider a less defensive viewpoint. It will do your heart good. I reiterate; The dieing multitudes are the "opposition" to Saddam in Iraq. This is according to "the US plan." It has gone on so long now that I would be impressed if there were any of the oppositional forces left alive in Iraq. As you suggested earlier when you asked, "the people Saddam gassed." Well no, they are already dead. These are the one's he would have gassed if he had the time and resources.

"my entire income on extraneous items and let my kids starve, or fail to get proper medical treatment for them"

Well, first you are right Saddam is willing to let these kids (who are the children of oppositional forces die as a result of the economic sanctions that we imposed). These kids are no more his kids than they are your kids. He is willing to allow this in order to keep HIS regime in power.

You are correct that your blazing saddles analogy is not funny but it is not appropriate either. The forces in Iraq are mainly Kurd in the North, Shiite in the South, and Saddam's political stronghold in and around Bagdad. The outlying villages are uneducated and distant from the politics of the thing. These groups have been deadly enemies for centuries. The targeted groups are innocent of the offenses perpetrated by Saddam's regime.

"Sadam did precisely that..."

You seem to have accurate details on Saddam. I would encourage you to take another look at who the victims are. We have held them hostage while watching them die for over a decade now. The strategists who envisioned this did not see them as "Saddam's kids." That is a cultural misnomer applied by Americans like you who prefer not to think about it. The intent of the sanctions was to cause enough internal stress on Iraq that Saddam would be overthrown. I would like to see the unecessary massive death toll eliminated. I appeal to you to take the same position.

The fact that Saddam may be a heartless madman does not absolve us of all responsibility in this matter. Either we have missed the target at the cost of hundreds of thousands of innocent children or we deliberately targeted those children to get at Saddam. That it has gone on for over a decade is inexcusable. Lets take responsibility. Most of the World sees that Saddam is mad. Unfortunately most of the world also sees our part in this.

I know Iraqis who have escaped Saddam's regime and come to America. It is thier loved ones who are dieing. They hate Saddam and believe me what they have to say is not a Saddam spin.
