PT: But the weak link for DL is typically elsewhere so I still play the multiple browser window game.

If you have a lot of browser windows open at once, you should take a look at Opera (http://www.opera.com/).

There's often a lot of talk about the "last mile bottleneck". In truth, this bottleneck doesn't exist... yet, anyway (from an infrastructure standpoint). By far most people still connect to the internet (from their home) using a modem. And let's face it... modems suck.

All these users need to upgrade... the sooner the better.

One problem with many ADSL solutions is actually the latency, which can be annoyingly large. The same goes for packet loss, which also has a negative influence on streaming media applications. But still, there's no comparison to a modem in terms of general crappiness.

When the vast majority of users connect using a broadband solution of some kind, we will see many, many new applications that will stress, e.g., the CPU.
