First, I deny that he forced socialism on anybody. The one program that came closest to doing that (NRA) was declared unconstitutional. Second, since Roosevelt won in landslides year after year, he was not forcing anything on the people, considered as a whole. Third, whether he violated his oath of office is a matter of interpretation, since constitutional rationales were provided and ruled upon by the Supreme Court, sometimes favorably, sometimes not. Anyway, yes, I think the alternative would have been worse, most likely......
