Yes, I think I missed Charles the V, at least.....

I am not sure what will happen with Vietnam. I find the phenomenon of electing widows/daughters very interesting, given the sexism which is otherwise pervasive in most of these societies. It shows the continued power of dynastic tradition over less developed cultures. The insistence of the Congress Party to make Sonia Ghandi its titutar leader (she is ethnically Italian) is the most extreme case......

Well, don't forget that after the revolution we went through the Articles of Confederation ourselves before we wound up with the Constitution, so it wasn't a direct transition here, either. And there were still armed revolutions after the Constitution was adopted, so it wasn't exactly stable. Not to mention the Civil War, a pretty destabilizing event for much of the nation.
