Environmental regulations are under siege by the White House. Only a powerful grass roots opposition and the defection of moderate Republicans has kept them from gutting the protections we have. On TV today the head of Sweden could hardly conceal his disdain for Bush sitting next to him. No major ally has sided with him in any way, only Poland and Hungary which probably want a hand-out. I would estimate that 75% of Europeans now consider Bush a dangerous boob. And that is very bad news for America. Clinton was beloved by 75% and so those countries cooperated with us. The GE deal debacle today would never have happened with Clinton there. It was a blow and may lead to an adverse relationship between US and Euro industry. That is also not good for America or our economy. Notice the dollar also fell sharply today. People around the world are simply losing respect which we fought so hard to win. Even Bush's father was fairly popular and articulate on international issues, though he did barf on the Japanese prime minister's lap.

Bush himself howevre I do not personally blame. He is a straw man and a poster boy. He is not really runing the country and may never. When Reagan came down with Alzheimers the last two years in office others began running everything for him. Bush will have his handlers running things for his entire four years in office. And since they are mainly made up of Texas oil types, it's too much power in special interests hands.

Bush cronies clearly seek to gouge us with higher energy prices while at the same time set back environmental progress 20 years. And who suffers? We all do, including your kids and future generations. The Kyoto treaty attack is not just bad policy it's a powerful negative symbol and was a direct violation of a campaign promise which means he was elected (though he lost the popular vote) dishonestly. With the margin of victory only 1000 votes or less that lie alone if never told might have made the difference. Which makes Bush an illegitimate president. Still we have him and there's no going back. But when he fights against environment protection he is fighting a losing battle and it is already his undoing. Reagan had such charisma he was able to force unpopular decisions for special interests down peoples throats and still smile and joke about cattle farting being worst for the environment that industrial pollutants. Bush has nowhere near the teflon quality or chaarisma. As president, he is simply not ready for prime time and in over his head. And I don't think he has the mental capacity to learn very much on the job either. He will end up right down there with Warren Harding at the bottom of the all-time list. Monica or not, Clinton is considered the #7 greatest president of all time. Bush may end up being dead last.
