OT: TotalFinaElf Warns Of Skills Shortage in North Sea, London, June 14,

A shortage of skilled labour threatens to damage a revival in the fortunes of the North Sea's oil industry,
TotalFinaElf has warned. "It was a very serious issue for the industry," the French company's managing director Michel Contie said. Three time as many technicians were leaving the offshore sector as were being trained,
he was quoted saying by the Guardian Thursday.

TotalFinaElf, the world's fourth biggest listed oil company, is planning to spend some Dlrs 1.4 billion on exploration and development in the UK sector of the North Sea over the next four years to take advantage of booming commodity prices. Contie warned that spending plans by all operations in Britain's offshore industry threatened to be blown off course by the problems of finding qualified staff.
