How have we backed off the nanny state? I missed it. /i> Welfare is the most conspicuous example, but I think it's mostly that we've really slowed the rate at which entitlement programs are added. Getting rid of programs for the poor is easier than tackling the middle class entitlements. And regarding the overprotection, we haven't made a dent that I can see. Still, the first step for getting out of a hole is to stop digging. I think we've significantly slowed the digging. Karen
