re: "AMD already has the highest institutional ownership (at 81% of float) of any if the tech stocks I could come up with, bar NVDA (92%). Virtually all the others (SUNW, IBM, DELL, MOT, ATYT, CSCO, INTC etc) are at ~ 50% or less.

Is the HIGH INSTITUTIONAL OWNERSHIP good or bad for the ordinary investor?

Does it contribute to the volatility of the stock? stability? neither?

What about the high insider ownership?"

Sometimes it ( INSTITUTIONAL OWNERSHIP ) is good and sometimes it is VERY bad. To point out the obvious, it is very bad if they ( institutions ) all attempt to exit at once. It is good when they represent "STRONG HANDS" in the stock for the very long term. Who is to say...until much later?

re: "Does it contribute to the volatility of the stock? stability? neither?"

Since it dries up supply it may contribute to volatility. Also institutions tend to want to get "their price" which may lend insights as to the impenetrability of the $30+ region. They are much better at waiting it out for the price that they have decided on than the general public is. They do not "chase" a stock on the rise. This can bode very well for AMD over the longer term....Unless, of course, things change fundamentally for the worse.
