Since China is currently lacking in environmentalists and and social activists, i project that antenna sites and installation will run like clockwork. Samsung Ships First CDMA System to China Samsung Electronics yesterday made a historic shipment of CDMA (code division multiple access) mobile phone systems to China. The ``Made in Samsung'' CDMA systems were shipped out from Samsung's Kumi plant in Kyongsang-pukto yesterday in the presence of senior company officials, including Vice Chairman Yoon Jong-yong. ``This is the fruition of combined efforts with the governments of the two neighbors as well as mobile communications systems companies,'' said one Samsung official. The systems, the first of the 1.13 million lines that are to be installed in four Chinese cities, are expected to be fixed in Hebei and Tianjin, the provinces surrounding Beijing, for services provided by China Unicom. ``It took four years from April 1997 to realize this business and it opens the way for Samsung's participation in the cdma2000 1x project which will be awarded in China in October,'' the official said. Another shipment of 536 systems will be shipped to Shanghai and Fujian for installation and commercial service, scheduled to begin in October, he explained. ``The successful installation and operation of the CDMA systems will position Samsung comfortably and competitively for the October bidding for the 2.5-generation mobile communication services,'' the official said. At the ceremony, company Vice Chairman Yoon said the shipment is the culmination of persistent efforts by Samsung to win recognition for its CDMA technology from the Chinese government. ``This is a valuable opportunity to prove to the Chinese government that they have made the right choice and that it can rely on Samsung for the cdma2000 1x systems as well,'' he said. China has by far the greatest potential for mobile communications companies if for nothing else than its enormous population. It currently has more than 60 million mobile phone subscribers and this figure is expected to explode with the installation of CDMA systems. ÀԷ½ð£ 2001/06/15 16:46 hankooki.com
