there seems to be a clear upper limit on how far SQL Server can go in capturing market share unless MSFT does the unthinkable and ports it to Unix

True

what is remarkable in a way is just how large a percentage of the NT market Oracle has considering the near total dominance MSFT in product categories like Office

Maybe there lies the reason why Microsoft´s market share is growing, they are just reclaiming their territory.

Looking forward, we have to see the evolution of Windows in the server environment vs. Unix. Gaining ground there will be key for the future of SQL Server.

Take care
