4. Salinas, California +21.4%

Once a quaint farm town by the sea calling itself the "Salad Bowl of the World," Salinas remains an agricultural capital. Rising home values, however, are most likely due to an influx of high-tech refugees from Silicon Valley to the north, where home prices have shot beyond the means of many potential homebuyers. One Valley worker who settled in Salinas told a local newspaper: "I kept driving south until I could find prices I could afford."

Migration elsewhere? If we move far enough south now there is a thought. Super commuters or computers.

LG regarding Gold Fund investing availability, it certainly can be offered even to the smallest companies. I checked into details where my wife is employed at a company with 17 employees. Their Vanguard pamphlet has a Gold & PM fund. I've had her in it a while but didn't know who it was through before.
