Hi Hawk,

Re: Once both parties have these contracts locked, who cares what they speculators do.

Well, that's good in theory, but when the rubber meets the road, there are always consequences. In electricity, I'm facing a 40% price increase in October, due to the power marketers gamesmanship. (My co-op is facing a 150% increase from BPA.) Same was the case with airlines and truckers when oil shot up last fall. There is no stability for the demand side, as far as I can tell. And don't even suggest I ought to buy a futures contract in order to hedge my anticipated higher bills. <w> I'm in the Warren Buffett camp on this. If options and futures trading disappeared tomorrow, the real economy would suffer no LT ill effects and might even be a bit more stable. <smile>

I really enjoyed your lucid analysis of the fuel cell/hydrogen issue. Well done. However, what I had in mind as "alternative" energy research areas additionally include wind, solar and combinations of sources that could be applied in a distributed fashion. The opposite of the grid and intertie direction that the utes would have us go in. Some of the wording of A.B 1890 is simply obscene, IMO, regarding the dismissal and outlawing of co-generation and distributed generation. As I've said before, A.B. 1890 seems to have been largely written in the executive suites of the utes, by the utes and for the utes.
